Objectives
1. To ensure a work program devoid of interruptions and disturbances arising from community related issues.
2. To put in place a clearly defined method of resolving such issues as they arise.
3. To ensure the surrounding communities derive maximum benefit from our program.
4. To ensure utmost care when our vessels are passing through communities.
To achieve this objectives the following procedures shall be adopted in the implementation plan.
a. VISITING
Upon the contract award, it is planned that we conduct a courtesy visit with our client. The purpose of the visit will be to inform the communities of ELSHCON’S proposed presence. We shall seize the opportunity to formally intimate the communities with the project, then establish appropriate channels of communication between client and contractor and communities on all issues relating to the project.
b. LOCAL LABOUR
We shall select skilled labour. We shall recruit a reasonable percentage of our labour force from the community. This will further stimulate the economy of the local community and develop the skill of the indigenes thus ensuring the derive maximum benefit from our activities.
c. METHOD OF REPORTING AND HANDLING
Any company disturbances will be reported quickly to our Public Relation Officer (PRO) who will be expected to inform the clients representative of imminent disturbance and propose an appropriate line of action. The representative should together with our PRO establish the grievances of the community, and there after (within 24 hours of the occurrence) report the matter along the line Managers.
